When students cannot meet course staff and their peers in person, orientation activities must help to enhance student’s sense of belonging and maintain motivation. Although this CPD course is all pre-recorded, learners will have direct access to Anna before, during and after the course, to ask questions and feedback any enquiries.
Orientation
When online spaces form the total learning experience, well organised courses in the VLE and materials with clear instructions and guidance around expectations and requirements are essential. This is why an Orientation video is provided that gives clear instructions and guidance around expectations and requirements. It also gives detailed instructions about the VLE platform and where to find handouts and downloads for the courses.
Engagement
To maintain student engagement online, it is important to include well designed learning activities. This ensures students are actively involved in their learning and with chances to test their understanding, rather than passively reading/watching content. This is why there are quizzes at the end of every section, which means that learners have to not only understand the lessons but also apply the answers, in order to pass and receive the CPD certificate.
Providing variety in the modes of content delivery also enhance student engagement. That’s why videos, quizzes, written downloads and audio downloads, are all included in the course. Clear graphics and animations are also used to enhance the learner’s engagement.
